Engineer Training Programme

If you're a technical 'problem-solver' looking to build a career in engineering, then this programme - which includes a Foundation Degree - will help develop your skills through a mix of practical work and academic study.

The training you receive will vary slightly from person to person - depending on your skills and qualification on entry - and the area you choose to work in.

Induction

Induction

This four week introduction is where you meet other trainees, get to learn the basics about our business, take part in modules on health and safety and even spend a week team-building on an outward bound course in Cumbria. Induction takes part at our first-class residential training centre in Eakring, Nottinghamshire – and during your first year you’ll get to know it well!

Study towards a Foundation Degree

Study towards a Foundation DegreeStudy will take place at our Eakring Training Centre where you’ll be based for periods of time, depending on which team you work in.  We’ve worked with Aston University to tailor this course specifically to our needs, and you'll also do modules at Loughborough College. It’s suitable both for people who have never studied engineering beyond A level, as well as for those who already have a background or experience in electrical or electronic engineering.  Aston University lecturers deliver the Foundation Degree modules at Aston and other universities in the UK usually in two week blocks. There are assignments and assessments throughout the course and exams during year one and at the end of your degree.

Managed field experience on on-the-job training

Managed field experience

Once you’ve completed your Induction and basic training at Eakring, you will spend time out ‘in the field’ observing real-life situations so you can build up a portfolio of key practical experiences so expect to travel around. One week you could be in Newcastle watching a major maintenance project, the next in Cornwall observing replacement of equipment.

You will also spend time at your base location working with your team and undertaking on-the-job traning, enabling your practical skills to fully develop.

This is an important part of your overall development and is carefully managed by a Scheme Coordinator who will help you identify where and what type of activities you need to broaden your experience.
