Graduate Development Programme

The Learning and Development we offer on both Graduate Development Programmes is some of the best around - we know, our graduates have told us!

Every year this is reviewed to ensure our graduates are getting the most out of their programme so that they are ready for the first permanent post with us.

This is what you get ...

3 x 6 month Placements

3 x 12 months Placements with the Finance Analyst career path

Each presenting you with a new challenge, but each placement will grow in complexity and responsibility, pushing you to develop your technical and behavioural skills.

Learning and Development Activities

In addition to on-the-job learning, formal training courses and study towards a professional qualification (or Chartership with a relevant body), you will be expected to develop yourself by getting involved in a diverse range of challenging projects and tasks. You will also complete a series of innovative modules, delivered with the rest of your graduate cohort such as project management, and also elect to go on self-directed learning including presentation and communication skills.

Site Visits

As part of your development you will be encouraged to get out and see the business, from seeing a local substation in action or a gas leak being fixed by our emergency gas team, to a visit with some of the other graduates to our LNG plant in Kent, or a presentation from our Directors at our head office in London.

Support and Networking

You'll also benefit from individual mentoring, as well as exposure to senior management and other networking opportunities, putting you in the best possible position to develop the attributes that will make you a leader in the future. Your manager and your team colleagues will coach you through each of your placements so you are able to make key decisions whilst feeling fully supported.

Newnet

This is the employee network for new-starters at National Grid. They provide support and development opportunities for all our new employees, raising business awareness and facilitating your personal development through numerous events that we hold throughout the year. This is open to all the new graduates you join with, plus previous years intakes too so you can ask them for advice and guidance on anything you need.
