National Grid has a huge engineering estate and because of this we need capable engineers and technicians who can join us, and start working on our assets immediately.

Balancing supply with demand

Engineering and Technical Careers

The majority of the roles we recruit for will be in our Transmission business because this is the area of National Grid which is rapidly growing - it requires a huge investment to update and extend our electricity and gas networks - including overhead lines, pipes, substations and other infrastructure projects. But we need people to manage and deliver this work so you are looking to join us at the perfect time - there's a huge variety of exciting and challenging opportunities for skilled and talented people like you.

The types of roles vary from being hands-on working outside on our substations as Field Engineer, to being in control of the electricity network in our control centre - balancing supply with demand. Or you could be a Power System Engineer designing the route of a new over head line cable, or working with project engineers on the construction of a new gas pipeline.

We also look for graduates straight out university, if you want a role that is focused on a technical specialism rather than leadership potential there may be a direct entry opportunity for you.

To find out more about these opportunities go to Transmission.

If you don't have much experience and are looking for an opportunity to develop, or want training programme you can find out more about our graduate and engineer training programmes under Development Programmes.
