Meet our People

David Wright - ENI Manager

National Grid at the moment is incredibly exciting company to come and work for, gas and electricity networks business, but what makes it really exciting at the moment is the fact that we are trying to turn our electricity delivery network from a network which is fed up from fossil fuel generation to a network which is fed from renewables with massive growth in offshore wind farms and tidal power, which is radically changing the power flows across the network which gives us a fantastic engineering challenge. Putting it altogether as a package, you know, it is a great opportunity to come and work for a company which will give you fantastic career path, it doesn't matter if you are an electrical discipline or any other engineering disciplines, there's work for you to do here. We're delivering an investment programme of over a billion pounds per annum, currently, and that's looking to grow even more moving forward from a project delivery prospective, and there is an opportunity to live and work along and learn from, some of the best international experts in their individual field, but at the same time you will be doing something which is critical to the UK's national infrastructure and delivering that green environmental agenda that we all want for tomorrow.

So what does that mean for someone new joining National Grid today, well, it means there's a great opportunity for fantastic careers development, National Grid is a FTSE top 20 company with assets here in the UK and also in the states. We are the second largest utility over in the states at the moment and it's a company that very much believes in people development at the heart of our future.

When I think about engineers joining us, there are two typical careers paths. There is one which is very much the engineering technical career path working and learning from some of the best experts in their field internationally at them moment, but there is also the second career path, the engineering leadership, which is the path that I followed, and I can tell my feet really haven't touched the ground as I have been given challenge after challenge both gas and electricity, and here and over in the states a phenomenal opportunity to really achieve your potential.
