Richard Proctor - Power System Engineer
At the moment I'm working on development of offshore networks where we are changing possible designs future for the offshore wind developments that are happening at the moment, up until 2030 and beyond, so it's interesting work at the moment.
The colleagues I work with, I work in a smallish team within a wider group, are all great. I know most of the people but there are always people moving about within the company and always new people starting as well. We have quite a few social events, quite often we go out for meals and have little events after work or various social exercises, go-karting and things, so I know people really well, not just within work but outside as well.
Over the next few years I want to build up my experience and technical knowledge within the company, ideally I would like to become a technical specialist and become an expert in my field. I'm interested in the main transmission network and offshore developments, and rounded engineering working on the full theory behind the electrical transmission system.
The best bits of my job are - it's always interesting, it's always different, there's always new things coming along. I started off in a different team and moved into renewables and offshore, it's very new territory for us. Previously we were much more focused on onshore, on large combustion generation and it's very interesting now with renewables and integrating new technology onto our network. It's interesting work.
