Biljana Stojkovska - Power System Engineer
Right now I'm preparing an offer for an offshore wind farm, connection of 750 megavolts of offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea. I'm also working in a project of implementation of DIgSILENT which is a very modern and sophisticated tool for power system analysis.
My job fits into National Grid in a very challenging and interesting way. Preparing offshore wind farms is one of our biggest challenges because if you would like to meet the government renewable target that is one of the most important things, and implementing the DIgSILENT is one of the modern power system tools which will make our job daily much easier and much quicker to do on a daily basis.
I think that National Grid now sits actually at the heart of the energy market and the job is so challenging and I've always been passionate about investment in transmission - that was my topic of research at Imperial College - so this was a natural continuation of my research work. But only into the industry environment so that's why I like this job very much.
I would say to anyone who is passionate about investment in transmission that this is the right time and the right place to be and to work for National Grid, and I would definitely encourage all Power Systems Engineers to come and work for National Grid.
The best bit of my job is that it's very challenging, the dynamic is very interesting. I think this is the right time to be a Power Systems Engineer, it's the most exciting period, and we need to emphasise that the team is young, full of energy, perspective and this is one of the other things that make this job very attractive.
