Meet our People

Debbie Harris

The core responsibility of my role is to interface with finance to understand what the gaps are in the future opportunities and risks, so that we can say that we‘re half way through the financial year this year, and we need to make sure we develop sufficient to finish at the end of the year.

At the same time we’re keeping our eye on the future. We’re working with asset management to make sure the designs are kickstarted within the alliances early enough to reduce the risk of them not being delivered safely, or in time for our customers.

The Thames estuary is one that’s quite high upon people’s agenda, as is Cleve Hill because it’s a windfarm connection for the Olympics, so it’s got quite a big Olympic impact. For me it’s about the development so we meet our future spend.

My role is so varied it’s unbelievable - the type of people that I work with and some of the challenges that brings with it makes every day slightly different. Right now I’m working on the development of our future growth – so this is our customer connections, the windfarms and making sure we replace the assets that need replacing to achieve our capital investment over the next five years.

If I didn’t do my job properly then the future growth and capital investment that National Grid is expecting over the next five years could be at risk. We’re in the process of developing - over the next five years - £9 million of investment portfolio.
