Benefits

At National Grid we are committed to being an employer of choice, offering attractive salaries as well as providing a wide range of health, lifestyle and protection benefits.

To supplement our attractive and competitive remuneration package, we offer the following benefits:

Holidays: Full-time employees are offered a standard entitlement of 25 paid holidays per year in addition to 8 public/bank holidays. The entitlement is pro-rated during the first year of employment.

Family Provisions: We offer a range of benefits to help employees balance their work and family commitments. Provisions include maternity leave of up to 52 weeks, paternity leave of 2 weeks and adoption leave of up to 52 weeks. We also offer paid time off for pregnant employees to attend ante-natal care. The generous leave provisions are supplemented by a range of options for returning to work and we offer a Childcare Matching Service that is free of charge to all employees and designed to match their needs with available services in the local area.

Pension: New employees are eligible to join the Defined Contribution Section of the National Grid UK Pension Scheme. Employee contributions are matched by the Company on a 2 to 1 basis up to 5%. Employees can choose where their contributions are invested from the range of available options set by the Trustees.

Share Schemes: We offer employees the opportunity to become shareholders in the Company through our share schemes - Sharesave and Share Incentive Plan (SIP).

Give As You Earn (GAYE): GAYE is a payroll deduction scheme that gives employees the opportunity to support charitable organisations from pre-tax earnings. Employees can choose to donate directly or via a charity account. National Grid pays the administration charges on the charity accounts set up by employees, so 100% of employees' donations are received by their nominated charities.

Matched Giving: We operate a matched giving scheme that supports individual employees in their charity fundraising efforts by matching up to £400 of their funds raised in each financial year.

Employee Community Grant:  The Employee Community Grant scheme encourages and recognises significant volunteer work on the part of employees, enabling them to apply for a grant of up to £1,000 for qualifying organisations.

Educational Incentives: We promote the continuous improvement of professional standards with support for course attendance, course fees, books, examination fees, study leave, examination leave and professional membership fees.

Employee Assistance Programme (EAP): The EAP is a confidential service that provides free professional information, help and support to employees.

Personal Accident Insurance: We have a Personal Accident Insurance Scheme that covers all employees whilst employed by the Company. The scheme provides for a maximum benefit of 5 times pensionable pay in the event of a serious accident resulting in death (or a proportion of this for serious accidental bodily injury).
