At National Grid we are passionate about encouraging people to get into science and engineering. We know employers have a lot of work to do to educate school children on what a career in engineering can look like - we've done our research ...

Engineering our Future

Our Engineering our Future report was commissioned to assess the attitudes among young people towards engineering and identify how we can encourage the next generation of engineers. We found that young people often struggle to visualise what professional engineers do, and often teachers are also unable to explain engineering. As a result, in the UK, we have bolstered our existing employee volunteering in local schools through Imagineering and School Power - a new programme of activities to enrich the teaching of energy, forces and materials.

We have worked with the Royal Academy of Engineering to create a new residential work experience programme that offers programmes for engagement with teachers and career advisers. If you're a teacher, careers advisor, parent or interested pupil, and want to find out more info link into our other sites:

Engineering our Future - details the research we conducted into attitudes of young people towards engineering and what National Grid is doing to help.

School Power - Created to inspire the inventors, engineers and scientists of the future, it's full of fascinating facts, interactive activities and fun experiments - all about power and the exciting themes of Energy, Forces and Materials.
